In 1860, Alexander II issued a decree established the State Bank. In 1864, Kazan was opened one of the first divisions of the bank. The first room of the State Bank was in the Kremlin. Opening of Kazan division was evidence of great importance in the economy of the Kazan province in central Russia. In the pre-revolutionary period, the Kazan branch of the State Bank actively developed. Bank led the whole galaxy of fine control. All nine managers had an excellent education, were good organizers of the financial affairs. They were awarded the highest awards.

In 1911, in St. Petersburg it was decided to build a new building of the Kazan branch of the State Bank. City authorities were allocated for the construction. It was decided to construct a building on the Grand Prolomnaya Street (now street. Bauman), in the downtown area. At the site of the future building was the second men's gymnasium. A two-storey stone house has been demolished. Several neighboring houses were purchased and demolished by the State Bank. Under the project, the building had to be symmetrical with two identical wings. But because of the intransigence of one of the owners of the nearby, subject to demolition of the building, the project had to redo it. The building turned asymmetrical, with one left wing.

Design and build a building professional groups: architects and A.G.Sapunov F.P.Gavrilov engineer Trifonov. The building was built in 1914 - 1915 years in the neo-classical period of eclecticism. It was built of local stone: limestone and dolomite. The building has a beautiful exterior and interior. Its architecture is characterized by good taste and severity of forms.

Tenth manager was State Councilor Marin. It was during his leadership of the revolution took place. Marin famous for heroically rescuing the gold reserves of the country, which was kept in the Kazan branch of the State Bank. Trusted him value captured Czechs. He personally, being a disabled person without legs, accompanied by a trainload of gold through the rear of the Civil War - across Siberia. In May 1920, all the gold in complete safety returned to Kazan.

Currently the building is renovated and it is the National Bank of the Republic of Tatarstan.
