Loket Castle

The ancient castle with strong walls, slender towers and small windows typical of the defensive fortress was built in the neighboring town of Loket Karlovy Vary in 1234. Excursions are organized to Karlovy Vary, and the castle itself is often ranked among the local attractions.

Loket name comes from the Czech word "elbow". Ohře River, on which the castle is built, making this place a sharp turn, its shape reminiscent of the human hand.

Historians still debate about who founded the castle. But most believe that Loket was built on the orders of one of the Czech rulers. And who was it, to figure out right now is not no way. Maybe even the King Wenceslas I.
