Kanazawa Castle once was the city-forming. It is located next to the garden Kenrokuen, which was once outside the castle garden. In June there is a festival in honor of the founder of the castle Maeda Toshiie.

The castle was founded in 1583, moved to Kanazawa Maeda family. Subsequent owners of the castle was added in his face something of their own - to expand the area and added new tiers and structures. Like many buildings in medieval Japan, Kanazawa Castle burned several times and rebuilt several times. The first reconstruction took place just after ten years of construction - in 1592 and then in 1621 and 1632, then after the great fire of 1759 in Kanazawa. Last reconstruction, which gave the castle its present appearance took place in 1881. Ishikawa Gate survived to date in the reconstruction in 1788.

In 2001, the castle buildings have been restored in their image in 1809 with the construction technology of the time. It was possible to recreate the interior of the main hall, which is called "The Palace of thousands of tatami." Roofs are covered with light-colored tiles of the castle, which includes lead. This roof is not only considered to be fire-resistant, but also played the role of ammunition: the siege of the tiles was supposed to melt and cast in her bullets.

Generally, Kanazawa Castle was well fortified and prepared in the event of military action - in its complex there are watchtowers, ramparts, loopholes and hidden holes for firing. During the Second World War the castle was the headquarters of the Imperial Army. Until 1989, the castle served and peaceful purposes: its territory was University.

The main attractions are the two three-story castle watchtowers-Yagura, room Godzikken Nude - stories and elongated, used as a warehouse area of nearly 1, 5 thousand square meters. meters. And Tsuru-no-maru Dobey - double ramparts and gates Ishikawa-mon masonry, made in two different styles.
