In the suburbs of Kaliningrad, near the small village Isakov is mighty Fort №1, named after the famous politician - Baron Heinrich von Stein. Massive military structure was built in the years 1875-1879 and is one of twelve forts are part of the defensive belt "Night feather Koenigsberg."

Fort №1 is an elongated hexagonal structure of brick and concrete, surrounded by a moat, reaching a depth of more than five meters. Three-level bastion had all the necessary communications in the form of steam heating, sewerage, water and power supply. Also in the fort were located two courtyards, drawbridge (the back side) and on the third level was a six-meter earthen shaft equipped with trenches and firing positions for artillery.

The original fort was the name of Louth due to the proximity to the German locality Lauther (original title - Stein am Lauther Muhlenteich). In 1894, the fort was named after the German leader of the early nineteenth century - Heinrich Friedrich Karl von Stein (imperial baron image can be seen on the Prussian coin worth five marks).

In the early twentieth century fortification was upgraded. During the assault of Konigsberg (April 1945) Fort Stein is not a direct threat to the Soviet army, as was a secondary position and was taken without a fight. Last German commandant of the fort - Major Vogel's own sergeant was shot for refusing to surrender.

After the war, the fort is a vegetable base, disbanded in the early nineties. In 1994 the family moved to the territory Lorushonis defensive structure, while organizing the eponymous charitable foundation for the protection and restoration of the cultural identity of the fort. In the course of many years of restoration work has been formed exhibition of ancient weapons, and decorative building materials, household items the former owners fortifications.
