Currently, Latvia has 120 Orthodox churches (10 years ago there were 76) and 2 monasteries. Separately, I want to highlight the Orthodox church of St. Vladimir in Dubulti. Dubulti is a part of Jurmala, and is located 22 km from Riga.
For the first time the need for the Orthodox Church in Jurmala talking in the middle of the XIX century. Baltic Chamber of state property decreed that the land allocated for the construction of the church. Erection took up the first guild merchant Lomonosov. A Petropavlovskoe Brotherhood, founded at the Peter and Paul Cathedral in Riga, was to take care of and monitor the construction of the temple.
The construction of the temple and its interior fittings were completed in 1867. Sanctify it in honor of the Grand Prince Vladimir. The consecration of the Archbishop of Riga and spent Mitavsky Plato.
Initially, services were held only in the summer months. The temple does not have a permanent priest. Parish was also absent. Only in 1902, services were held in the winter. This happens twice per month. The temple was visited by a large number of people. Parishioners of the church helped as best they could. They helped raise funds for the temple on the shroud. The temple was heated due to collect donations. Was about 150 people. In 1906, services were held daily. They are carried out in three languages: Church Slavonic, Latvian and German.
In the years 1897-1900 at the church acted a parish school. It is noteworthy that most of the students were Lutherans (47 of 57). After school ended its work. Then Alfred V. Mirbach (Lutheran Baron), who served as head of the police dubbelnskoy, allocated funds for the repair of the church and church buildings adjacent to it.
At the beginning of the XX century Petropavlovskoe Brotherhood took over the construction of a chapel adjacent to the church on Dubbelnskom fraternal cemetery. In Dubulti at the same time it has already been erected another temple on the Riga coast. Therefore Agafangel, archbishop of Riga and Mitava sends the church priest Kuymetskoy church, Father Nikolai Shalfeeva. Subsequently, in 1913, he will become the parish.
The Church of St. Prince Vladimir endured World War I, the revolution of 1917, the change of government, and remained unharmed. In 1943, the church took refugee children, whose parents were shot or burned in the German camps.
In 1944, the church had broken blinds, broken glass. All of the interior had to temporarily carry the Kazan Church, located on the territory of modern Dzintari. In 1962, by the decision of the Latvian authorities to the church are simply routed per day, and all of its property was transferred back to Dubulti church.
Today rector of St. Vladimir Church is Father Vladimir (Rätsep). It is part of the Synod of the Latvian Orthodox Church, and teaches at the Riga Theological Seminary.
It is noteworthy that since 1902 once a year in the church of St. Prince Vladimir of worship brought Pskov-Pechora Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God "Tenderness". And in 1907, here some time was one of the main shrines of the Latvian Orthodox Church - Yakobshtadtskaya miraculous icon of the Mother of God (re-written by the image currently resides in Ekabpilsskom Holy Spirit Monastery).
Many people from different parts of Latvia and neighboring countries attended Dubulti temple to pray before brought miraculous icons. According to witnesses, many pilgrims get rid of all sorts of diseases and ailments.
Icon Panteleimon healer in a silver frame, an icon of St. Seraphim of Sarov, the old image of St. Nicholas, and just painted the image of the blessed old women Matrona of Moscow - one of the most revered icons of the church today. Beautiful and one-of-a-kind icon of the Lord Almighty, the Lord's Resurrection, Archangels Michael and Gabriel, the Kazan icon of the Virgin is decorated with the right and left side-altars of the church. They were taken from the destroyed temple in Dzintari, which was written earlier.
In St. Vladimir's church, you can see the icons of the saints that are rarely found in other churches in Latvia. This is - the images of Faith, Hope, Love and their mother Sophia, Theodosius of Chernigov, Nina, Olga, Catherine, Tatiana Valentine Constantine and Helen. Image of Grand Prince Vladimir is situated in the royal doors.
