The official name of the Cathedral - Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Cathedral temple is because there is episcopal. The building of the cathedral, which we see today, was consecrated in 1901. The new building of the cathedral was built on the site of the old church, built about 1825-1829 years. In 1859 the building was updated, but, unfortunately, destroyed about 1890. The new building of the cathedral was reconstructed twice - in 1988 and 2002.
The architectural style of the cathedral - Neo-Gothic, which is inherent in most of the churches built at the time. The temple was built in the shape of a cross. The main entrance to the temple is located on the west side. In the center of the main portal you can see a statue of the Virgin Mary, and is crowned by the portal inscription in Latin. The facade is decorated with a stained glass window-rose, which is considered a symbol of the Virgin. Cathedral spire crowned by three: the two highest - 60 meters - located on the side portals, third, 45 meters high, is located on the east side of the temple. The tower with a spire on the north side is called the "Fort of David" and symbolizes shelter and protection from the forces of darkness. The tower on the south side is called the "ivory tower" and symbolizes the purity of the Virgin Mary. This tower has antique clock that still works. Inside the temple, there is a body of worship carried out by the organ music and the singing of the church choir.
The cathedral has two floors, on the second floor is a museum of the history of the Catholic Church in Indonesia.
