Castle in Kruszwica - the royal castle in central Poland, which was founded by King Casimir the Great. At the present time it is in ruins.
The construction of the defensive castle began in 1350 and lasted for about five years. Rectangular fortress measuring 40x50 meters with walls 11 meters and a width of 2, 5 meters. The dominant element of the castle was preserved, and today the 30-meter tower, which was in the basement of a prison. Along the perimeter of the fortress defended by a wooden palisade, a deep ditch and a lake. By the main entrance led suspension bridge.
It is known that the castle was reconstructed a long time, and therefore did not meet the requirements of modern defense. As a result, he was captured by the Swedes in 1655 and partially burned. Ideas about the appearance of the castle in Kruszwica were obtained from the panorama, released in 1696.
Today, in addition to the Mouse tower partially preserved fragments of the outer walls and ceilings.
In 2011 we began archaeological excavations in the basement of a former castle. One of the beautiful legend says that Swedes hid in cellars jewelry, hope to return to the castle.
Tourists have the opportunity to see a defensive tower, as well as several photographs and drawings related to the castle and surrounding area.
