Gёsting Castle is a ruined castle in Gёstinge, located in the northwest of Styria, Graz.
The castle was built in the 11th century, and the first mention dates back to 1042 Gёstinge year, when Emperor Henry III gave the land to Count Gottfried. In 1050 Gottfried Gёsting bequeathed to his brother Adalbero from Wurzburg. From that time until the 17th century the castle was in the possession of the princes, they led the Viscount.
In the 15th century the castle was modernized: expanded to the fortress to protect against the Turks and Hungarians.
In 1707 the castle and the surrounding lands were acquired by Count Attemsom. In mid-July 1723 by a remarkable coincidence, lightning struck the barn with the powder, resulting in a large part of the castle burned. After the fire, we decided not to restore the castle, and as the new family residence Attems built a new castle at the foot of the mountain.
Since 1999, the castle ruins and the surrounding forests belong to the family of Baker Auer. Today the former castle has only three floors, the chapel of St. Anne, which is used for church services. The former tavern built a small museum. The museum and a chapel are located in the second - "top" of the castle. Just west lie the ruins of the old castle, which is still possible to determine where the main entrance was constructed, the moat and the drawbridge. Once the castle was surrounded by a palisade shaft. The northern part of the courtyard was used for economic development. Until now partially preserved water supply system.
The ruins of the castle are in a half an hour walk from the center of Gёstinga.
