Mahalsa temple complex, located near the small settlement Mardol, which is in the northern part of the state of Goa, was built in honor of Lord Vishnu, or rather his only female incarnation of the Goddess Mohini, or as it is called Mahalasa Narayani.

It is believed that this temple was originally built in Nepal, and then the idol of the goddess was moved to the city of Aurangabad, in Maharashtra. But after the conquest of these territories Mughal army, hid it in a secret place in Goa. The modern church was built during the Portuguese rule. It consists of two main buildings, one of which is by the temple Mahalsa, and the second - dedicated to Lakshmi Narayan, where there is also worshiped equally with Vishnu. Also within the complex and the seven-story tower is reminiscent of a high candle.

The main attraction of the temple complex Mahalsa considered a huge brass bell. It is not used in the rituals. In his earlier call only when they wanted to learn, he says if someone is telling the truth or not. Legend has it that if people tell lies until the voice sounds of the bell, the goddess would kill him within three days thereafter. People are so strongly believed in this, that this method is even officially used in court hearings during the reign of the Portuguese.

Every Sunday, the statue of the goddess of the sedan chair carried to the temple, decorated with flowers and garlands, and twine it around the building. Meanwhile, gathered people sing songs in honor of Mohini.

Recently, the temple is not allowed foreigners, explaining that they did not follow the rules of behavior in the temple, and do not dress appropriately to visit this place.
