House of satire and humor - a unique and essentially the only museum dedicated to humor. It opened in Gabrovo in 1972 April Fool's Day - April 1st.
We can say that the museum continues and develops the role of Gabrovo folk humor, its traditional masquerade. After Gabrovo - the recognized capital of the Bulgarian humor. In unison, the sounds and the motto coined by the employees of the museum: "The world has survived as could laugh! "
In the place where is the building of the House of humor and satire, first housed a tannery. House of satire and humor have been built after the plant was demolished. The total area of the museum - 8000 meters, in this area there are 10 exhibition halls. Thus, the House of humor and satire can be attributed to one of the largest museums in Bulgaria.
Permanent exhibition - "The Roots of Gabrovo humor", which presents a variety of exhibits, including the famous local stories with illustrations by Boris Dimovski, a famous cartoonist. It was from here that the familiarity with the museum exhibits.
Before the entrance to the exhibition of all visitors are greeted by a tailless black cat - a symbol of Gabrovo. According to one of the local jokes, Gabrovo once cut cats tails, so that they were more likely to open the door, thus saving heat in the frosty time of the year. But of course, this is nothing more than a joke - not a single resident of the city, and the thought did not allow that to deprive a pet tail.
Another humorous allusion to excessive frugality of Gabrovo painting enjoys a commanding position in the museum. This is a job for the sake brush Nedelcheva - large-sized egg with a tap, which, incidentally, is also another symbol of the city. The painting alludes to the fact that local housewives during the week do not use a whole egg to filling lunches only on holidays.
The museum has a room specially equipped for children, where the children can play freely and even to touch the exhibits. Also in the House of humor and satire is a unique "Bank of jokes", which leave a favorite anecdote or a joke can be anyone.
Every year on April 1 in the museum held a special celebratory program.
