The church is located in the historic center of Evora, a city located to the east of Portugal, 120 km from Lisbon. Because of the huge number of architectural monuments and other places of interest Evora is also called a museum city, which attracts tourists from all over the world. It is worth noting that the Evora, namely its historic center, listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Church of Nossa Senhora do Carmo was formerly part of the monastery of the same name. Order of Carmelites in Evora appeared at the beginning of the XVI century. Then the order was constructed the most simple church, which was destroyed during the siege of Evora in Portugal during the war for independence. Order addressed to King Alfonso VI with a request to stay a while in the old mansion belonging to the family of James' de Braganza. Until our times preserved fence of wrought iron at the main entrance to the church, as well as impressive size with an unusual architectural trim door.

Construction of the new church of the Order was started approximately in 1670, and its grand opening was held in 1691. Portal of the newly built church is Baroque. The facade on the sides are decorated with small towers, one of which is the bell. Inside the church has one nave, side chapels made in the Baroque and Rococo. The main altar of the church is decorated with an image of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The altar is covered with gold leaf.

In 1834, the Order of Carmelites left Portugal, like many other religious orders. The building, which housed a monastery, again returned to the family of Bragança, but the church is still one of the first places tourists.
