Liškiava - a small historic town (now the village) is located in the south of Lithuania, in the picturesque district of Varena, on the left bank of the Neman River, 9 kilometers from the town of Druskininkai. Belongs Merkinesskomu starostvo. For 2005, the population of the village was Liškiava 37 people.

In the ancient written sources Liškiava first mentioned in 1044. Already in the XI century on a hill it was built a wooden fortress. At the end of the XIV century during the reign of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytautas the Great began construction of a stone fortress, discontinued after the Battle of Grunwald (1410). At the end of the XVII century in the village it was approved by the Dominican authorities.

Between World War I and the Great Patriotic War Liškiava it was on Lithuanian territory. Liškiava also famous for its monuments. This castle and the ruins of the Tower of XIV-XV centuries. Further, the major attraction is the architectural ensemble of the world-famous church of the Holy Trinity (the end of XVII century) and the Dominican Monastery (II half of the XVIII century), located on the high bank of the river Neman. The church is a wonderful baroque pearl in southern Lithuania, which is visited by tourists from Lithuania and the world. Yard fence and porch of the church belong to the construction of the XVIII century, and the bell tower and a memorial pillar with a statue of St. Agatha of the XIX century. In the church of the Holy Trinity has survived a lot of art XVII-XX centuries.

Thanks to the efforts of employees of the cultural center Liškiava, all this cultural heritage adapted to tourists and of cultural activities here. They are working on the restoration of this cultural monument, which suffered during the First World War. In those terrible years in the monastery housed a shop, post office and other institutions. In Soviet times the monastery building was used for other purposes. Here, children learn first, and then organized clothing manufacture. It was only in 1998 in the village of Liškiava was decided to create a cultural center of the state Liškiava.
