Church of St. Martin is one of the most famous basilicas of Cologne, made in the Romanesque architectural style. It is located right in the center of the city where it is quite tightly surround the different construction of the end of XX century.

The history of this beautiful temple started in the XII century, when it was built on the foundation that was left from one of the older buildings still the era of the Romans. For several centuries, the church at the monastery of the Benedictine, but in the period of secularization it became ordinary parish church. Unfortunately, during the war of the XX century basilica suffered greatly, its restoration lasted until 1985. Currently, the church of St. Martin is open to all comers.

Of the last interior decoration and interior design almost nothing has come down to the present day. Preserved here is the altar, which was made at the beginning of the XVI century, it is in the side nave. Special attention is worthy of statuary depicting scenes of the Passion of Christ. Each framed singular Gothic arch formed of sandstone. The author of these sculptures is considered Tilman van der Burj, who worked in Cologne in the XV century.

Near the crucifixion is Hot, hewn out of stone in the XIII century. It is made in the form of an octahedron, it is decorated with friezes of water lilies. Historians believe that before this font was in the church of St. Brigid's, but was subsequently donated to the Church of St. Leopold III. Martin. Of particular value is the church of the triptych depicting the Adoration of the Magi.
