Translated from the Thai language "Wat Suan Dok" means "Temple flower garden" and is adjacent to the Royal Buddhist university.

The temple was founded in 1370 by King Lanna Kue On settlement of the people in the area "Lavaux" Doi Suthep mountain near. It existed in the church garden, and gave him the title. In charge of Wat Suan Dok was put revered monk of the Kingdom of Sukhothai Sumana Maha Thep.

The first thing that catches the eye at the entrance to the temple - the dazzling white buildings that resemble small chedi (stupa). In fact it is - the mausoleum that holds the remains of the royal family of Chiang Mai. At the beginning of the XX century Princess Dara Rashmi (one of the wives of King Rama V and King's daughter Lanna Inthavichayyanona) brought together the remains of ancestors from different places in the district of Chiang Mai.

Most valuable is the 48-meter bell-shaped chedi (stupa) built in Sri Lankan style. It relics of the Buddha, who guard the many-headed naga, which is a distinctive feature of the architecture of the Lanna Kingdom.

The recently renovated fat (meditation room) is interesting arrangement of Buddha statues. While all the statues are usually directed toward the east, in the Wat Suan Dok, they are opposite each other. Statue of Buddha sitting in meditation, look to the east, and the statue standing Buddha - to the west in the direction of the chedi. One reason for this arrangement - undeniable importance Chedi and relics enshrined in it.

The temple is known thanks to a bronze statue of Buddha Phra Chao Kao Tu, created in 1504 and amounts to a height of 4, 7 meters. It is remarkable mix of styles: clothes Buddha made in the style of Ayutthaya, while the elongated fingers speak a clear influence of the Sukhothai style. The statue is located in ubosot (small temple room).
