Edzna - an ancient town located on the ground north of the Mexican state of Campeche. It was erected by the people of the Maya as early as 400 BC, and it was abandoned around 1500 AD. In the late classical period edzna Kalamkul belonged to the state.
Scientists suggest that the city was settled twice. In 400 BC, - Peaceful Indians who were engaged in agricultural work. They have developed a system of water channels for rainwater, which ran to the fields. By 150 AD the city was abandoned, possibly because of a conflict with neighboring tribes. After half a millennium new city settled the Indians who built the pyramid, which can be seen today. New residents have revived the city, making it the main shopping center in the south of the peninsula Yutakan.
Most of the cities of this period are similar to each other. Edzna has on its territory a wide green field, beyond which in the shade of thick, but still passable thickets are different pedestals. One of the most notable buildings is the main temple, located on the 40-meter platform. To the left of the church is visible high hill with columns and on the right is the platform speed, similar to a pyramid, stretched along the horizon. It is called the Big House. Perhaps it served as a lookout to observe the rituals.
Another unusual structure - a small pyramid that instead of steps has a long sloping road. Next to it is a small playground for ball games. She wore entertaining, but took away the lives of two players in the losing team - captain and another, they gave as a sacrifice.
Great Acropolis - a huge area, enclosed by a wall of the field, and on the sides - two pyramids. The main thing here - five-level structure, the height of 35 meters. At each level, there is little room-cell. Light them gets only during sunset.
It offers a magnificent panorama of the very Etsnu and beyond.
