Erzsébetváros (on him. Elisabethstadt or English. Elizabethtown) - 7th district of Budapest, which is situated on the Pest side of the Danube. The central part of the inner area of a historic Jewish quarter of Pest. In Erzsébetváros is Dohany Street Synagogue - the largest synagogue in Europe.
Currently it is the most populous district of Budapest with a population density of 30,000 people per square kilometer. In 1910, Erzsébetváros lived 152,454 inhabitants. In the socialist era the population Erzsébetváros significantly reduced, because the young people and the family quickly moved to the "panel" house new districts (Újpest, Újbuda, Óbuda, Kispest etc.). Restoration of historic buildings in the area and a new boom in luxury housing was in the mid-2000s.
