Kresna Canyon is a deep ravine between Malashevska and Pirin mountains. Its length is 16 kilometers along the river Struma. Canyon stretches from the town of Kresna south. Highway E79 (Sofia - Thessaloniki) runs along the river Struma.
Kresna Canyon is located on the territory of a transitional-Mediterranean climate. The January average temperature is 2, 4 degrees Celsius, winter is mild. Summers are hot, average July temperature is 24, 7 degrees Celsius.
Flora and fauna of Kresna Canyon is diverse, there are some endangered and only rare species listed in the Bulgarian Red Book. In 1949, near Kresna gorge in Bulgaria has created the Ministry of Forest Reserve "Chisato".
