Architectural reserve village of Dolen is located in the western Rhodope Mountains about 26 kilometers from Gotse Delchev, and 128 kilometers from the center of Blagoevgrad. Above the sea coast is a mountain village rises a little more than a kilometer.

Based village was in the XVI century, fleeing the Bulgarians, who did not want to forcibly convert to Islam, so were looking for a quiet place to live in the highlands.

During the period of the National Revival, which had at the beginning of XVIII - the end of the XIX century, flourished Dolen: villagers grew tobacco, engaged in the manufacture of jewelry, cattle, shipping costs and other things.

Samples of architecture that have been preserved in the village from the era of the National Revival, allowed in 1977 to declare the village of Dolen architectural and historical reserve. By the conservation area today includes 70 houses, each of them - a monument of culture nationwide. For typical Dolenjska houses characteristic protruding upper floors above the street, and carved wooden ceilings of the rooms.

Among the attractions include the Church of St. Dolena. Nikola, construction of which was completed in 1834. For it is most interesting to explore the impressive iconostasis, as well as many unique icons. In addition, the village has several interesting objects, such as the intersection of Kavala, shopping street and Nikolovski spring.
