Blagoevgrad - Bulgarian town situated on the south-western Bulgaria, a hundred kilometers from Sofia. During the Turkish occupation, the town changed its name several times, one of them - Djumaya. In the 18-19th centuries on the east bank of the river Bistrica for the Bulgarian population of the city was elevated to the Varosha quarter, which until today has reached almost in its original form and is the most interesting and popular tourist district of Blagoevgrad. The location is very picturesque, it is to preserve the atmosphere of the Bulgarian Revival: a paved narrow streets, old houses, surrounded by high stone walls, whitewashed facades and wooden verandas. Varosha is a lot of monuments of architecture, history and culture, one of whom is now a functioning church of the Virgin in the Temple.
In the mid-19th century, the Bulgarians received the Sultan permission to build a church in the Varosha quarter. In 1840, construction began on the Church of the Virgin Mary, consecrated and opened it was in 1844. More than half a century for the church completed and sign it.
