Photo: Aga Khan Mausoleum
On the left bank of the Nile is a white villa - a summer residence of Mohammed Shah Aga Khan III, the 48th Imam of the Ismaili Muslim sect. He was very fond of Aswan and bequeathed to bury him here.
From the villa, you can go up the stairs to a small beautiful building of the mausoleum of the Aga Khan. It is a quadrangular building, decorated with small towers at the corners and topped with a dome. Tombstone made of white marble and covered with delicate ornament. At the head of the sarcophagus is a small vase with a rose. Every morning, for many years the widow of the Aga Khan put in a bowl fresh rose.
