Kazan church is one of the churches of the Diocese of Astrakhan and Enopatievskoy.

At the beginning of the XVII century after the liberation from Astrakhan gang chieftain Zarutsky near the east gate of the Astrakhan Kremlin built a stone church, which was consecrated in 1615 .  The tower above the temple was named "Prechistenskaya" in honor of "Most Pure Virgin of Kazan" .  Almost 100 years later, in 1709, the church was abolished and the icon of "Our Lady of Kazan" transferred to the Cathedral of the Assumption .  New Kazan church was built over the river Kutum in Kazan suburb, where he was stationed with the 1707 Kazan Regiment soldiers .  All the soldiers were assigned to at the time of the Smolensk church, but she was on the other side of the river and it is, especially in the high water, it created great difficulties for the faithful and the clergy .  Therefore, at the beginning of 1753 I started to collect donations for the construction of a new church .  In 1769, construction of the temple was completed, and in 1782 added two stone bell tower .  After a case of healing the plague swept the Volga region, built a temple to the two chapels in the name of Great Charalambos and St. John Chrysostom, Gregory the Theologian, and Basil the Great . 

As a result of a strong fire in 1858 burned almost all the village and marina, the temple leaving only the stone walls, but thanks to the generous donations of the laity temple rebuilt in the same year. In the future, the Kazan Church finishing work several times, but she still could not accommodate everyone, especially during the holiday services. At the end of 1903, the funds transferred by several construction committee Astrakhan merchants, construction work began on the construction of a new church next to the existing one. Service as it lasted until the date of completion of the building and only after that the old church was demolished.

The new church was consecrated in autumn of 1907 and immediately took a special place among the Astrakhan temples especially exquisite architecture and elegant. In 1923, the Kazan Church took "Renovationists." But in 1930, the church took away the faithful, a little later the bell tower was demolished and four side dome. Mutilated and plundered the temple was first warehouse, and then all was abandoned.

Only in 1991 Kazan Church returned to believers. It began a long and painstaking process of restoration. In recent years, the temple has acquired not only a fitting appearance, but also enriched the shrine - an icon of Kazan Mother of God written in the Holy Mount Athos.
