Cyril chapel - the current Orthodox church, which belongs to the ensemble of the Astrakhan Kremlin. Cyril chapel was built in the XVII century (in 1677), different architectural style of "Russian Empire".

In terms of architecture - it's a small building without altar, the cubic form with a dome and four-cross. At the entrance to the church was built of carved portal and an attached to the western wall of the portico plate says that the burial of Astrakhan governor von Mengden. In the same church he was buried the founder and the first rector of the Astrakhan Orthodox monastery - Hegumen Cyril. More precisely, it is the place of his burial a wooden chapel was built in honor of the miracle that he committed - salvation from the fire of the city of Astrakhan. But by mid-century wooden chapel became dilapidated and in 1677 it was rebuilt in stone. At the beginning of the XIX century, the chapel was restored, it was completed the now existing portico with columns, which in combination with a dome betrayed involvement in the architectural style of the "Russian Empire".

In Soviet times, the chapel has long been used for the needs of the Kremlin garrison, and, of course, lost not only most of the paintings on the ceilings, and architectural integrity. After repair of the Kremlin in the 70s of the last century in the chapel made a gift shop. Only in 1992, we passed the chapel of the Church.

Currently ongoing restoration works on the entire range of the Astrakhan Kremlin, in the chapel of St. Cyril restored the exterior walls and roof the frescoes, hosts weekly prayers in front of the relics of St. Cyril.
