Original architectural landmark "Golden Age" of the city of Arzamas is the Church of the Nativity, built on the site of the temple of the 17th century. In 1845 there was a laying of the new Church of Christ at the expense of the tax-farmer-merchant Arzamas A.M.Zayashnikova. The author vosmistolpnogo temple in Russian-Byzantine style was the architect KA Tone. In 1852, Christmas on the street opened its doors to a new stone Church of the Nativity with five tented domes. Finish building the temple structure has the means Zayashnikova heirs.

Four years later, the same architect of the church was built in Krasnoyarsk in detail repeating Arzamas. The only difference is the presence of the bell tower, which has existed near Christmas in more than the old Smolensk Church (built in 1797). In 1940, like all Orthodox buildings, church nationalized and placed under house bakery. During the Soviet regime lost temple dome and wall paintings. Much worse had Smolensk, adjoining chapel, survived only by her half-dismantled wall.

Now the Church of the Nativity was restored (with a considerable simplification in the decorative facades), fenced, there was a small belfry. The unusual architecture of the church with a Gothic architectural monument and is a great attraction Arzamas.
