The biggest mosque of Ankara, and one of the oldest Islamic buildings in the city is the Kocatepe Mosque. It was built in 1987 on a hill near Kizilay Square. Construction of the complex was made according to the drawings of the architect-planner Husreva Taylan, and took about 19 years (1964-1986 years). This new symbol of Islam was built on the model of the Sultan mosque Sinan. The architectural decoration of the mosque is also produced in the classical Ottoman style.
The area of the mosque is 4288 square meters (64 × 67), the height (the main dome) 48, 5 meters, diameter of the dome 25, 5 meters. Dome of the enormous size and four tall minarets, directed upwards, the height of each of which is 88 meters, visible from afar. They can be a wonderful guide while exploring the southern part of the center of Ankara. The domes and minarets decorated with gold crescents.
Once it is clear that the construction of the mosque did not spare the money mosque inside is decorated with stained glass and gold plates, huge crystal chandeliers, decorative tiles and marble. At its center is a model of the mosque Mescid-I Nebevi, located in Medina. Moded presented in 1993, Saudi Arabia's King Abdulaziz Turkish President Demirel.
