Ukok Nature Park ("Ukok") - is one of the natural attractions of the Altai. The natural park is located in the southern part of the plateau Ukok amid the scenic Rocky Mountains, at the junction of Russian, Kazakh, Chinese and Mongolian borders.

The park was founded in August 1994 as a natural reserve "Ukok", and in May 2005, the specially protected natural territory of Russia has been recreated by the type of the Natural Park. Three years later, "Ukok" as well as other areas were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as a natural site under the name "Golden Mountains of Altai". The total area of ​​the natural park of square 2542. km.

The main purpose of the park is to protect the environment, endangered species of animals and plants, the rational use of the recreational potential of the Ukok Plateau.

In today's Nature Park are three functional areas. The first zone is an area of ​​26,800 hectares - a zone of protected mode, which prohibits any recreational and economic use of the territory. The second zone, with an area 39200 ha - the zone with a limited regime of use, providing the conditions of preservation of historical and cultural monuments, natural systems, with limited business activities. The third zone - a recreation area with total area of ​​186903 hectares, the territory of which is permitted to conduct regulated nature park tourism, sightseeing and business.

Ukok Plateau has become the most well-known after there were found Scythian burial mounds of ancient burials and many other objects of the ancient culture, which have a unique archaeological value.

Climate Nature Park is characterized by low humidification and continental. It houses one of the centers of concentration of endemic flora and fauna. Nature Area "Ukok" is the subject of recreational, scientific, historical, ecological and cultural values ​​are not only Russia but the whole world.
