Kaytbey Fortress - one of the main attractions of the city - was built on the site of Pharos lighthouse, the ruins of which have become the material for its construction. Inside is the oldest mosque in Alexandria and the Maritime Museum, where you can see items from the wrecks in the area during the fighting. The fortress was severely damaged during the British bombardment in the late XIX century.
