Catacombs of Kom el-Shukkafy dating back to II century AD - the largest ancient necropolis in Egypt. Here are arranged in three tiers tombs of the nobility. Down a spiral staircase, the envelope of the well, which descends on the dead body. On the upper level there is a large banquet hall and Triklinium rotunda, where divergent corridors leading to the halls with niches for burials. Sarcophagi and carved wall reliefs are a mixture of Egyptian, Greek and Roman styles. On both sides of the burial chamber, located on the second level, under the head of Medusa carved two Egyptian serpent in the Egyptian double crown. The lower level of the catacombs flooded and getting there is not yet possible.
