Transfiguration Cathedral - is a real jewel of the city of Abakan. In 1994, the city administration has allocated land for the construction of the cathedral. The project of the temple, which was made by the architect A. Krylov, has been developed by the institute "Abakangrazhdanproekt" under the direction of the chief engineer of the project AV Usov. Soon, however, the construction of the cathedral was suspended due to lack of a sponsor. Construction work resumed only in 1999, at the same time, Bishop Vincent had consecrated and laid in the foundation of the cathedral being built the first stone.

In August 2001, the cathedral was conducted the consecration of the lower church in honor of the New Martyrs and Confessors Russian. In December of the same year it was consecrated the upper church of the Transfiguration of the Lord. Since there was over the iconostasis, a full consecration of the cathedral was impossible. In 2006, consecrated the main iconostasis, which by this time was decorated with amazing carvings. In the same year in the upper church was attached to the two side chapels: the right side-chapel of the Mother of God "Burning Bush" and the left side-chapel of St. Innocent, Metropolitan of Moscow.
