Tradition says that in the late 17th century, during the reign of Constantine Bzhostovskogo bishop, decided to settle in the area of the monks Trinitarians. For this reason, this area was called Trinopolem, that is, the city of Trinitarian. They decided to build a church and a monastery with him. The temple was built during the years 1695-1709 and the architect was presumably Petro Putin.

According to other sources, the temple and monastery was built in 1703 by the Bishop of Constantine Bzhostovskim. Catholic church of the Holy Trinity, located in Vilnius, is a Roman Catholic church to the glory of the Most Holy Trinity.

The building of the church building and the adjacent former convent of Trinitarians are monuments of architecture and history. Are they in the northern part of the city, on the right bank of the river Neris. Initially, the church was wooden.

In 1710 the temple suffered a devastating fire that burned all the buildings. It was then decided to build a stone church and monastery buildings. To finish construction in 1722. It was then built the upper tiers of the towers. In the years 1750-1760 the church was reconstructed, as a result he has got elements of the late baroque.

During the Napoleonic occupation of the temple is located in a military hospital of the French army. Like all other churches or other buildings in which French soldiers were quartered, the church was badly damaged. The interior of the church has suffered the most.

In 1832, as a result of the Polish uprising, the monastery was abolished and the church was closed. Ten years later the Orthodox Metropolitan apply for the temple for the use of their faithful. In 1848 the building was handed over to the Bishops house and Orthodox monastery. The church was renamed the Church of St. Joseph, it was reconstructed. On the territory of the former monastery it was taken by a small Orthodox cemetery. The old chapel, located nearby, renovated and converted into a church cemetery.

In 1917-1918, the temple complex was returned to the Catholics. The monastery buildings arranged shelter for orphans and Lithuanian school. In 1926, the monastery is a summer residence of the Archbishop.

At the end of World War II, the Soviet government closed and nationalized church. First, here we placed the hospital, and later - the tourist base.

In 1992 the complex was returned to the Catholics again, its first owners. In the monastery, it was decided to place the novitiate Vilnius archiepiscopate and retreat center. In 1997, the church was repaired and sanctified.

Catholic church of the Holy Trinity was built in the architectural style of the late Baroque. Two-story facade of the church, divided various moldings and pilasters. On the right and left side, right from the second tier of the facade, two towers. Between them they built a triangular pediment. Painted in yellow - white, a red-brown roofs, church looks majestic and strictly as all the architectural masterpieces of the late baroque. The complex is surrounded by a metal fence.

In the process of changing owners original decoration of the church was destroyed or lost. The only historic piece of furniture is a wooden sculpture, taken from the facade of the church of St. Catherine in Vilnius. The sculpture is made in the Baroque style.

Studying events in the life of the people of Lithuania and the Lithuanian state, you can make a clear parallel with the fate of the church of the Holy Trinity. He burned, closed and opened again, changed its owners, came to desolation, and again rebuilt. At the same time he retained his own style and his own greatness.
