Museum of Paleontology located in Helena, and is in Popnikolovom house, one of the oldest buildings that remain from the period of Bulgarian Revival (XVIII-XIX century). The museum is an architectural monument and a memorial to the construction of national importance. In the years 1980-1981 the building completely renovated and handed over to the University of Sofia St. Kliment Ohridski in educational and scientific purposes. While in the basement of the house staged a paleontological museum, which was created on the idea and under the supervision of academician and professor Todor Nikolov. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Toulouse in France.

The Museum of Paleontology, visitors can see a variety of materials from the collections of Todor Nikolov and chief researchers Stoycho Breskovskogo and Kristalina Stoykova. In addition, it represents a part of the finds that were discovered by students during their practical training in the city of Elena - the remains of various prehistoric animals, fragments of minerals, etc. On other floors Popnikolovogo home and still learn and work by students and teachers of the University of Sofia.

The building itself is also of particular interest, because it is - a typical building of the Renaissance period. It was built around 1830, the facades to the streets and Stephen Yovcheva Kyrshovska. This building is known as the "old engineering" as first in the first years after the Liberation, it housed the Municipal Service Centre. Later, in 1973, officially announced the construction of an architectural monument.
