Arbanasi - a village on a high plateau, four kilometers from Veliko Turnovo. The village is considered to be an architectural monument.
The name of the village dates back to the Albanians. They first occupied the territory after the Turkish authorities evicted them for permanent rebellion in the Southern Epirus. Staying in these places was founded in XII-XIV centuries, when nobles Tarnovo is settled in the summer residence, it was the epoch of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom. In Fährmann (ie, decree) of 1538 Suleiman the Magnificent, Sultan of Turkey, contains the first mention of the village of Arbanassi.
During the Turkish occupation of the inhabitants of Arbanassi mainly engaged in cattle breeding and trade, and some have mastered the craft. In the XVII century in Arbanassi - shopping center, which had considered the whole of the Turkish Empire. During this period, wealthy merchants to build houses resembling a small fortress: solid basements, strong walls, window grilles, doors and strongly bound in the absence of a balcony or veranda. Such houses are fully equipped for independent life when their owner leaves the yard just for well water. Houses were decorated in stucco and carvings.
Today they are one of the key attractions of Arbanassi. It has survived 80 houses, 36 of which - the national cultural monument. Some houses now converted into a museum. The most popular today - Konstantsalieva house of the XVII century, where today you can see the life of the Bulgarians of XIX century.
Among the national monuments of culture - five churches: St. George, Christmas, St.. Dmitry St. Atanas, St.. Archangels Gabriel and Michael. Near the village is the convent, which is also an interesting sight.
