As in any city in Spain, located in the center of Valladolid, the main city square - the Plaza Mayor. The principle of the organization and construction of the central squares of Spanish cities the same everywhere - it is always an area of ​​regular shape, surrounded the perimeter of contiguous buildings. The first area, constructed in such a way, it was the Plaza Mayor in Valladolid.

Initially, the area on the site emerged in the mid-13th century. Near the square there is a market where local merchants gathered, so the place was always crowded and lively. After a major fire in 1561, the area had to be completely rebuilt. The author of the reconstruction project was the architect Francisco de Salamanca. From that moment, the beginning of the area to serve the town square, and was named the Plaza Mayor.

The area has a rectangular shape, from her deep into the narrow streets of the city differ. On the Plaza Mayor facing facade of the main buildings of the city, decorated with arcades resting on columns and arched passageways. Here stands the majestic town hall Casa Konsistorial and old Zorrilla theater building, built in 1884. Around the square are many cafes and restaurants where you can relax and get acquainted with the local cuisine.

In the center of the Plaza Mayor on a high pedestal, a solemn monument to Count Pedro Ansuresu - one of the founders and the first city of Valladolid Lord. The monument was created in 1903 by sculptor Aurelio Carretero.
