Ulm Church of St. Michael has a long and complex history of existence. The first monastery "in the meadows," the church was founded in 1183 on the slopes of Mount Michelsberg north of Ulm. Located on a busy trade route, Augustinian monastery served as a shelter and a hospital for travelers and pilgrims. The then builders did not take into account that the location on a hill, is convenient for travelers, will have a very significant drawback - the frequent lack of drinking water. And in 1215 the monastery and church in the mountains have been abandoned and rebuilt on a river island near the center of Ulm. In 1250, it was built and consecrated a new three-span building, the second church of St. Michael. Augustinian monks skillfully used the new location of the monastery, the rapid flow of the river was the driving force behind several forges and mill wheel.
As a result of the siege of Ulm in 1376, it was decided to postpone the important buildings and churches in the city limits, a reliable protection walls. So the church of St. Michael "in the meadows" received its third and final location already.
In the next few centuries, the church and the monastery was reconstructed several times, closed and reorganized. A significant part of the buildings, archives, library, and the relics were killed in the bombing of Ulm in 1944. In 1954 the building of the church of St. Michael "in the meadows" was partially restored, and in 1998 radically rebuilt by the artist Geyer.
Today, the church of St. Michael Parish is not only the Catholic Church in Ulm, but the concert hall of organ music.
