Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh, referring to St. Catherine's monastery is located in the center of the one-storey historical building Zatverechya. In 1749 this place was a wooden Resurrection Church, which was built on the donations of its members. During the invasion of the Lithuanian church I was devastated for a long time stood in the ruins.

The church in its present form was built in 1775 - 1780 years on the merchant G. Bogdanov. At the beginning of the construction of the temple was renamed with the blessing of Archbishop Arseny of St. Sergius of Radonezh. The name was not chosen by chance. At this time, Archbishop Arseny just returned from the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, where he went to worship the relics of St. Sergius. There he was presented with an icon of a part of the relics of the great saint.

Construction of the temple was completed in 1780. Originally I had a small stone temple warm chapel in honor of the prophet Elijah. From the former Church of the Resurrection in a newly built stone temple suffered most ancient icon of the Resurrection, which is located at the western entrance to the temple, on the right pillar.

In 1843, at the expense of Tver merchant Mikhail Bogdanov were built three-tiered bell tower and refectory with Ilyinsky and Alekseevskii chapels (architect IF Lvov). All the buildings - in the style of late classicism.

The church was closed in 1930. West porch, and the top two tiers of the bell tower were demolished. In 1977, designed by architect A. Sokolov was carried out the restoration of the temple - the lower part of the temple completed drum with a bulbous head on it. Worship in the temple resumed in October 2004.

The temple is made in the typical tradition of Tver early classicism .  The temple -kirpichnoe plastered with white stone plinth .  The temple was built on the longitudinal axis three-part scheme .  Two tiers of windows quadrangular building has one head and five-sided apse .  Rectangular wide refectory, located on the west side, includes a lower tier of the belfry .  Do not come down to our times the upper tiers, having a square shape of the second and the third round had large openings ringing in the form of arches .  Disassembled western porch was with Pilaster portico and triangular pediment .  Building facades are divided into two tiers eaves, window openings that correspond to the first and second light .  The angles of the first tier processed rusticated pilasters and the second - paneled .  Skylights in the form of recessed arches in rectangular high niches decorated with garlands (this detail of decoration was widespread in Tver period architecture of early classicism) .
Facades refectory rather reserved. The walls are covered by rust belt, windows completed fan-crests. Closed vault covers bushel. The remaining slots Tromp in the upper corners of the volume indicate that the temple was supposed to finish with eight. But for some reason, "octagon on the quadrangle" fairly characteristic Tver 18th century architecture, has not been fulfilled. Refectory blocked Korobov vault and the lower tier of the bell - Phillips.
