One of the most unique and valuable sights of Russia is in the vicinity of the small town of Bulgaria in the Republic of Tatarstan. Ancient settlement "Great Bulgaria" formed in the tenth century, was one of the largest cities in Volga Bulgars until the thirteenth century, and in the fourteenth century (after the destruction of Bilyarsk) became the center of the Bulgarian region.
Bulgarian settlement is part of the State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve, and contains nine most ancient monuments, and epigraphic monuments dating back to the ninth century.
