Museum of Contemporary Art - Municipal Museum, located in a neoclassical building, the former commandant of the garrison of Szczecin, which was built in the fourth quarter of the eighteenth century. Until the end of World War II, the building served as the military authorities. In the seventies of the twentieth century, the house was handed over to the National Museum of Szczecin, and then there was the Museum of Modern Art.
The main task of the museum considers its distribution and promotion of contemporary art through independent projects of Polish and foreign art, as well as through temporary thematic exhibitions organized in collaboration with other agencies. The first collection was long before the opening of the museum in 1948. It includes a collection of works by artists of the nineteenth and early twentieth century, with an emphasis on the marine theme and portraits. In addition to the paintings in the collection there are also sculptures.
Museum of Contemporary Art is proud of its rich collection of paintings, which includes works by the great artists of the century, including Jan Matejko, Peter Michalowski, Jacek Malczewski, Konrad Krzyzanowski, Tadueusha Makovsky. Also, the museum exhibited the works of masters of the twentieth century: Peter Weiss, Jerzy Nowosielski, Isabella Gustovskoy and many others.
Museum coordinated international program Mare Articum and participates in the organization of the Baltic Biennale of Contemporary Art.
