In 1880 on the territory of Simbirsk, about ten kilometers from the city of Syzran opened the railway bridge across the Volga River, is being built in for four years. A major technical structure, length of 1436 meters, more than twenty years, is the largest in Europe and ranks sixth in the world in terms of length. The official date of opening of the bridge (30 August 1880.) In August 2010, next to the bridge was a stele, dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the opening of the Alexander Bridge. Today the historic structure continues to perform its important function, being a landmark of the Samara region.
