The market building was built in 1916 by architect V.A.Lyukshinym. The area of the market, together with the building and trade rows, takes up almost an entire city block and is at the crossroads of Chapaev, Sacco and Vanzetti, Kirov Avenue and peaceful side street in the center of Saratov.
Place of built covered market until 1914 was called Mitrophanievskoye area with Ascension-Sennovskaya church, consecrated in the name of the Holy Mitrofanii (hence the name of the square) and erected in 1838. In the early twentieth century in Saratov's largest bazaar Mitrophanievskoye considered. Rows of shops located throughout the area and brought in a lot of profits city treasury. Since 1900, the City Council is considering a draft of the new buildings of the market, but in 1907 architect Lukshin received an order for construction. After spending three years on the examination of the best markets in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Riga and Odessa, he started to design the building.

Indoor market is divided into two isolated from each other parts: the first - outdoor pavilions store located around the perimeter of the building and have 8 main entrances, the second - a covered patio with four main entrances. The facade is decorated with the emblem of Saratov (three starlet), enclosed in a laurel wreath, molding an image of a bull, Mercury (god of commerce), and a cornucopia of all that macho keep Atlanta on every front door in the Covered Market. In the middle of the courtyard is a fountain with bronze statues of female peasant.
The building covered market is considered unique in the commercial architecture of the early twentieth century, not knowing crane and construction machinery from having only two winches.
