Simeon (real name Samuel Peter Gavrilovic-Sitnyanovich) was born in Polotsk 12 December 1629. He studied at the Kiev-Mohyla Collegium - a Catholic institution of higher education. In 1656 Simeon took Orthodoxy and became a monk. Thanks to their education, he quickly moved up the church hierarchy. His sermons became famous far beyond the borders of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
