Munch Museum is the largest museum and cultural center in the capital of Norway, built in 1963, designed by Gunnar Fognera and Elnara Mikelbasta the centenary of the birth of the Norwegian expressionist painter and graphic - Edvard Munch.

His collection has absorbed more than 1,000 paintings, 4,500 drawings and watercolors, 1800, engravings, sculptures and 6, some personal items donated by him to the museum after the death in January 1944. The museum also serves as a research center for the study of the great Munch.

A special place in the artist's self-portraits occupy written by him - from the beautiful but gloomy young man to full strength yet the old man. This gallery of portraits allows us to trace the entire career of Edward Munch.

After an armed robbery in August 2004 stolen from the museum paintings were returned to the place only two years later. Some of them had to be restored, because they were noticeable damage.

The museum exhibition is constantly updated, and from the 1990s. there are concerts and documentary film in Norwegian and English. Some part of the exhibition Munch Museum regularly exhibits in other museums.
