Luxurious mansion Hadzhigeorgakisa Kornesios, named after its founder and first owner, is practically in the heart of Nicosia, in the spiritual center of the whole island - very close to the Archbishop's Palace.
At the turn of the XVIII and XIX centuries Dragoman (interpreter) Hadzhigeorgakis Kornesios was a Greek representative in the Ottoman authorities, one of the main activities of which was the collection of taxes. According to historical sources, Kornesios soon became almost the richest man in the city, which allowed him to build this magnificent house. But wealth did not save him from execution - the authorities accused him of fraud, and he was beheaded. Rich mansion after the death of his mother got Kornesios. They passed it in 1979 into the possession of the community of Nicosia. Currently, the mansion became a museum where you can see many exhibits dedicated to the history of the city - ceramics, icons, coins, furniture, kitchen utensils.
