Halki - settlement in the central part of the Greek island of Naxos. The small town is located in the center of a fertile plain among picturesque olive groves about 16 km south-east of the homonymous capital of the island and 5 km from the mountain village Filoti.

Once, while administrative and financial center of the island of Naxos, Halki prospered and was one of the largest settlements of Naxos. Today, Halki is home to only about 500 residents, most of whom are engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry. To this day there remained Venetian towers and beautiful Byzantine churches, as well as the many beautiful buildings in the neoclassical style, testifying about the past wealth and power of the city.

Certainly worth a visit located in the heart of the old distillery Halki Vallindras, built in 1896. From the same era are produced according to old recipes of the famous liqueur Naxos "Kitron". You can get acquainted with the production and the history of the distillery and taste, and then buy your favorite products.

No less interesting and snow-white church of Panagia Protoroni with unique frescos of early Christian, Byzantine and post-Byzantine periods. Within the walls of the church is a small museum with a superb collection of various ecclesiastical relics. The temple was built in the first half of the 9th century and is one of the earliest cross-domed church.

Attractions Halki and the surrounding area is also worth noting the Byzantine church of St. George, built in the 11th century on the ruins of ancient temples, the church of Panagia Drossiane, dating presumably 6th century, and the tower Graetz (17th century) - a fine example of Venetian defense architecture.
