Herman Otto Museum - the largest museum in Miskolc was founded in 1899 and formerly was called the Museum of Borsod-Miskolc (Borsod - historic county with its capital in the city of Miskolc). The museum contains more than 600 000 exhibits. The main focus of the exhibition is on archeology, mineralogy, arts, history and ethnography.

  The museum was nationalized in 1949. And the name of Hermann Otto - famous Hungarian zoologist and anthropologist, he received in 1953. Since 1963, he collects artifacts not only from the regions of Miskolc and Borsod, but from all over the county of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén.

  The museum occupies several buildings in the Miskolc and and Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén. The main building is located on Erzsebet Square and is the oldest of all, here are the main collection. The building on the street Görgey was built in 1952, here are the Museum of Fine Arts, a library and storage.

  In 1999, Herman Otto Museum was awarded the Museum of the Year.
