Awash - the highest point (234 m above sea level) Miskolc is a hill of volcanic origin, rising to 104 meters above the city. Since ancient Hungarian name of the hill means "forbidden," since in the bowels of the hill were equipped with wine cellars and grazing over them pose a danger to them. According to the project in the middle of Balint Seghalmi proshlogoveka Awash on the hill it was built a wooden tower, reminiscent of church architecture. In 1956, during the revolution, it was destroyed by Soviet soldiers.

  In 1963, on top of the hill it was installed 72-meter television tower, was once a symbol of the city. From the observation deck television tower offers a wonderful view of the city and its surroundings.

  On the north side of the hill, near Erzsebet Square is the Gothic Protestant cathedral Awash with the bell tower of the XIII century - the oldest building of Miskolc (another ancient building - castle Dёshdёr). District dug close to the sandstone cellars called Keys Awash (Avas KIS) or "small Awash."

  In the southern part of the hill Awash is the largest residential complex of town (Awash-South) - a typical area of ​​the socialist era with tall panel houses, which are home to one-third of the city population.
