For over half a century is a unique business card in Marrakech Majorelle Garden. This small size garden annually hosts more than half a million visitors. Creator of this wonderful garden was the French painter Jacques Majorelle, who was also a passionate botanist and plant collector. For the first time in 1919, visiting Morocco, the French are so sincere was captivated by the beauty of this country that has decided to buy land here, where he built a house and planted a garden.
Thanks to its excellent knowledge of exotic plants, Jacques Majorelle was able to gather in his garden an amazing collection of flora from all the continents of the globe. Of all his many travels, he brought new plants, which are carefully planted in the area. In 1947 the garden took its first visitors.
After his death in 1962, Majorelle gardens gradually started to decline and were even proposals for its demolition. Fortunately, the whole area was bought by the famous French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent, who not only saved the creation of Majorelle, but restored and bettered it.
And today, many visitors can see in the garden of Majorelle more than 350 species of unique plants and flowers. Here assembled a magnificent collection of North American and Mexican cacti, palm trees and a variety of bamboo, lotus Asia, and many other wonderful plants. At the entrance to the garden equipped with a beautiful fountain, it stretches from the small bamboo shaded alley with cozy benches for rest. On the main avenue that leads to the house, there is a long body of water and immersed in a green arbor, made in traditional Moroccan style.
Today, the old studio of Jacques Majorelle, painted in bright blue, houses the Museum of Islamic Art. Here, apart from the beautiful Islamic Art, also presented unique watercolors by the French artist, dedicated to the Moroccan nature, and private collections of Yves Saint Laurent.
