Wat Chong Klang is located in the heart of Mae Hong Son in front of the lake and park Kam Chong, his image reflected in the water against the backdrop of mountain scenery is a hallmark of the city and the whole province of Mae Hong Son.
Next to the temple is Wat Chong Kham, separates them just a small partition. Like its neighbor, Wat Chong Klang is made in the Burmese style, as in the period it was built around 1860, this area belonged to Burma. The distinguishing feature of style is wood as the main building material, as well as the active use in the decoration carved elements.
On the central altar of the temple is a replica of the famous statue of Buddha Phra Phuttha Sihing. Without her none of visiting Buddhist Mae Hong Son does not pass any celebration or important life event.
Most of the cultural value of the temple is a collection of 33 carved wooden statues as well as paintings and stained-glass windows, which depict people and animals from Phra Vedzhsandon Jataka (stories about the past reincarnation of Gautama Buddha) with the signatures of the Burmese language. The height of the statues is about a meter, they tell the whole story of the life cycle from birth to death, creating a truly impressive sight.
According to historians, all the statues were brought from Myanmar (Burma) in 1857. On some of them survived the label that their author is known and respected artist from Mandalay Thai Yai.
