The oldest park of Lithuania is the Aukštaitija National Park, it is located 100 kilometers north of Vilnius. Park was founded in 1974, its territory is more than 400 sq.km. Approximately 2% of the park is strictly protected area, access to it is possible only when accompanied by park employees.

The park is covered with forests, but 15% of the park occupied by ponds, namely 126 beautiful lakes and rivers. The most significant of the lake is - Kretuonas area of ​​8 square kilometers and Tauragnas 29 - 60, 5 sq.m. The latter is the deepest in Aukshtayskom park. Lake Baluošas boasts seven islands, and one of them has its own small lake, here is the lake in the lake. The water park system reinforces numerous streams flowing from them.

From the rivers running in the park, it is worth noting River Zheymyanu, the park it takes 22 km and it is in its basin include all bodies of water Aukshtayskogo Park.

Due to the abundance of water bodies in the Park is rich in flora and fauna. The park has more than 209 species of birds, 45 of which are listed in the Red Book of Lithuania, 64 species of plants, 59% of the plants growing on the territory of Lithuania can be seen in the park, and it takes only 1% of the country's territory.

What it is not surprising, because in the waters of the park, there are 35 species of fish and fishing enthusiasts happy to come to this beautiful place. The most favorite spot of all visitors to the park is Ladakalnis hill, with a unforgettable views of seven lakes Aukshtayskogo Park. Hill this height of 175 meters above sea level, and its name literally translates as "ice mountain". From the hill you can see the lake: Linkmenas, Asalnai, Ukoyas, Asekas, Alnas, Luschay and Almayas.
