The museum's collection includes aircraft engines, appliances and clothing. The museum has its own research center with a library and archives containing books, periodicals, plans, photographs and personal files related to aviation.

The museum exists since 1984 .  Initially it was a museum dedicated to the squadron F3 Malmslätt, whose discovery marked the beginning of the State Museum in Malmene, the cradle of the Swedish Aviation .  In 1989, the museum has undergone a further extension: it had a second exhibition hall, which allowed him to exhibit greater exhibits .  In 2010 the museum was carried out restoration work, and it was significantly increased in size .  Today, the exhibition is divided in sections: Aviation Pioneers (description of the early events in the history of the Swedish aviation during the 1910-1926 biennium . ); Between the wars (section devoted to the creation of the Swedish Air Force and the early development of the Swedish aviation industry in the period 1926-1939 . ); The Second World War (the growth of Swedish Air Force and the first aircraft SAAB during 1939-1945 . ); Aviation technology; Sweden during the Cold War (exhibition vehicles made in case of war in the period 1950-1980) .  Besides the permanent exhibition there are often arranged for temporary exhibitions and a variety of themed events .
