Kagsava Ruins - the ruins of a Franciscan church built in 1724 and destroyed by the eruption of Mayon volcano in 1814. Today it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the province of Albay, located close to the provincial capital city of Legazpi, and transformed into a public park under the jurisdiction of the National Museum of the Philippines. The ruins are considered a symbol of the dangers of life at the foot of the terrible volcano.
To get here from Manila by bus - the road will take 5 to 6 hours, or by plane - then the whole journey will take about an hour. Normally, after visiting the ruins Kagsava tourists climb to the summit of Mayon, which is just 11 km away.
The baroque church in a small town was built Kagsava Franciscan monks in 1724 on the site of another older church destroyed by Dutch pirates in the 17th century. But she was able to survive for very long - in 1814 was the strongest in the history of the eruption of Mayon volcano, which killed 1,200 people and Kagsava town was buried under tons of ashes. Hundreds of Kagsavy during the eruption sought refuge within the walls of the church, but also killed. From the building of the church have survived only the bell tower and some parts of the monastery.
