Lagos - a city with a rich history, it is not surprising that it is filled with beautiful monuments that mark the historical events in the life of the city. Among these monuments should be noted the monastery of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, which is located near the Church of the Immaculate Conception. The monastery was built in the Baroque style. Construction of the monastery's church was begun in 1463 on the initiative of Cristobal Dias. The epicenter of the earthquake occurred just south of Lagos, almost all villages and towns of the Algarve have been destroyed. Follow the earthquake flooding also caused considerable damage to the building of the monastery. The building was restored, the work takes Lourenco de Santa Maria, Bishop of the Algarve. In 1833 the monastery was closed.
In the middle of the XIX century the monastery was given to the municipality of Lagos. The building of the monastery was damaged again when there was an earthquake in 1969 and was again restored. Recent restoration works were carried out in 2004. The facade of the church is quite simple, the roof is made in the form of a dome. Inside the church has one nave, small ornaments, quite ascetic.
